Today is Pentecost Sunday--the day we celebrate the birthday of the Church ...

Today is Pentecost Sunday (June 8,2014 )--the day we celebrate the birthday of the Church. I encourage you to take some time today to read about the story in Acts 2. Pentecost turned boring religion into an amazing adventure, and it transformed ordinary people into bold missionaries. It can do the same for us today.
Here are four vitally relevant reasons why we should celebrate Penetcost.

Many Christians view Pentecost as just a symbol—or a nice image they've seen in a stained glass window. But please don't reduce the Holy Spirit's work to an event in history. The early Church could not fulfill its mission without the wind and the fire of the Holy Spirit. And the Lord wants to make Pentecost personal in every Christian's life.

In some paintings of Pentecost, the fire resting on the heads of the disciples has been depicted to look like tiny flames from Bic lighters or birthday candles. I doubt the Spirit's power looked so puny. When His anointing flows through us we receive power to share our faith, heal the sick, cast out demons, speak His inspired message and receive His divine direction. Don't minimize the Spirit's potential in your life. Dare to catch on fire!

Pentecost interrupts us. The Bible tells us that the wind of the Spirit blew into the upper room "suddenly" (Acts 2:2)—and His arrival was not on anyone's timetable. Jesus Himself said the Spirit is unpredictable. Like an invisible wind He blows where He wills (John 3:8). We cannot control Him. Yet Jesus expected His early followers to wait for His interruption.

Pentecost propels us. There is nothing static about Pentecost. Although Jesus told His early followers to "stay in the city until you are clothed with power from high" (Luke 24:49, NASB ), He never intended for them to linger there after the fire fell. Once they had been baptized in the Spirit they were energized with hot zeal. They could not sit still or keep their mouths shut.

From that moment the book of Acts becomes a blur of noisy commotion. The newly ignited saints darted back and forth through Jerusalem like spiritual pyromaniacs, spreading the fire of God as they healed lame beggars, baptized new converts and miraculously broke free from prisons. After Philip the evangelist took the gospel to a Samaritan village, he was literally picked up by the Spirit and carried to Azotus in an instant.

Pentecost was an accelerant—it seemed to speed up time, and it gave Jesus' followers an uncanny mobility. Pentecost turned boring religion into an amazing adventure, and it transformed ordinary people into bold missionaries. It can do the same for us today.

Church Attacked in Jabalpur, Christians Threaten to Shut Schools if Attackers Not Caught.

Members of a Hindu religious group allegedly vandalised a church in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh late on Friday night where a Bible convention was being held. There were around 200 tribals present at the time of the incident; they had come to the church for the convention from Mandla District.

According to church authorities, the men had a heated argument after which they created ruckus in the premises and broke flower pots.

But the the attackers claim there was no vandalism. "We went to the church after we got to know that a religious conversion ceremony is been organised there in the name of Bible convention. Otherwise, why were so many tribals called there?" said Yogesh, a member of the Hindu Dharma Sena.

A police case was registered against unknown people on Saturday after a complaint by church authorities. The Christians have threatened to close all missionary schools and colleges in Jabalpur on Monday if police does not take any action.

"If the perpetrators of this crime are not punished, we will close all the Christian schools in the area," said Denzel Paul, a leader of the Christian community.

"We have registered a case against unknown people after a complaint by Christian community," said Isha Pant, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Jabalpur.

While the Christians deny the allegations made by Hindu Dharma Sena, a few tribals claim they had come to the church to convert. "We came here to convert to Christianity," said Satish, a tribal from Sirhora village who attended the convention.

Deadly blasts hit Pakistan churches in Lahore

Two bomb blasts have killed at least 14 people near two churches in a Christian neighbourhood of the Pakistani city of Lahore, local officials say.

More than 70 people were hurt in the explosions, which targeted worshippers attending Sunday mass at the churches in the Youhanabad area.
Violent protests erupted after the blasts, with a mob killing two men accused of involvement in the attacks.
Pakistan's Christian community has often been targeted by militants.
An offshoot of the Pakistan Taliban, calling itself Jamatul Ahrar, has said it carried out the attack.
Witnesses say suicide bombers were responsible for the explosions but police have not confirmed this.
The bombers are said to have detonated their explosives near the gates of St John's Catholic Church and Christ Church.

A large crowd gathered at the scene of the blasts, protesting about the lack of security.
The crowd also attacked two men it accused of involvement in the explosions, killing both of them. Photographs from the scene showed a crowd setting the men's bodies alight.
Protesters carrying sticks blocked Lahore's Ferozepur Road. Local television pictures showed a bus station being attacked.

'Scuffle at church gate'

Amir Masih, a witness quoted by Reuters news agency, said he had heard an explosion near one of the churches.
"I rushed towards the spot and saw the security guard scuffle with a man who was trying to enter the church," he said.
The man blew himself up after failing to enter the church, Mr Masih told Reuters.
